Joyce DeWitt is an American actress. She is best known for her role as Janet Wood in ABC’s sitcom Three’s Company (1977–1984). Her other credits include Call of the Wild 3D, My Boyfriends’ Dogs and Airplane II: The Sequel. Born Joyce Anne DeWitt April 23, 1949 in Wheeling, West Virginia, to parents Paul and Norma DeWitt, she was raised in Speedway, Indiana. She belongs to English, Swedish, Dutch and Italian descent. She began appearing on stage at the age of 13. She worked as a secretary before she took up acting. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in theater from Ball State University and master’s degree from the University of California. She dated fellow actor Ray Buktenica from 1979 to 1986.
